Practice Teaching

After I did some observation on teacher and also teaching assistants, I was assigned to practice my teaching for the first time in Matthayom 2/4 (Grade 8) and being observed by my mentor Aj. Oranuch Somprasit and My Cooperating Teacher, Miss Lek. I was so nervous that day. The class started at 9 a.m and before that I prepared all the things needed. I tried to follow my lesson plan as good as possible. Along my days at school I teach 4 topic for 2 classes.

Warm Up activity: In this stage I introduced myself and also my country. Then I invited them to play a game called “Hangman” to increase their spirit and introduce them about my topic with the game. Firstly i told them about the rules then separate the students into two groups left side (A Team) and right side (B Team). Then they played the game, the winner team would get a reward at the end of the class. I was so happy they were excited playing the game.

Presentation activity: After I did the warm up, in the presentation stage I explained the topic. By giving them some pictures to guess using ‘There is and There are’ I enganged them to be active and communicative. After that I explained them about the topic using my PowerPoint Presentation. I also invited them to guess the pictures I've prepared in my slides. They should make a sentence using "There is or There are" related to the picture.

Practice activity: This stage was giving to evaluate how far is the students has understand the materials that they’ve learnt. In this stage I asked them to separate into some groups and doing the group worksheets, after they present and checked the worksheets together.

Production Activity: In this stage, I asked them to draw part of their house and explain their drawing using There is and There are. For the winning team at the first activity, they can choose the easier room to be drawn. Because of the time is limited, I asked them to make it as their home assignment.

Wrap Up Activity: In this stage, I reviewed the lesson with students and ask them to finish the home assignment then collect it in the next meeting. Then closed the class.

Making Lesson Plan

After Miss Lek annouced the topic that I should teach, I tried my best to make a lesson plan. All of the general lines that I will say, I put in my lesson plan.

Prepare the Media

I used PowerPoint Presentation  as my media to explain the lesson. I tried to make the media as interesting as possible and clear enough to be understood.

Prepare the Worksheets

I prepare the worksheets also the answer key for measure and assess students’ performances.

Submit The Lesson Plan

I submit my lesson plan to my mentor (Aj. Oranuch Somprasit) and my cooperative teacher 3 days before I start my teaching practice.

Time Management & Organizing Activity

“Time management” refers to the way that you organize and plan how long you spend on specific activities. In managing the time before I start my teaching practice, I prepared the lesson plan, worksheets to be printed and others equipments. In arranging the lesson plan, I also indicate how many minutes will take in every steps so I can divide the activity for 1 hour. I also used my watch to see how much I’ve spent the time in each activities.

  One problem that I had about the time management was the teacher who teach the class before spent more than 60 minutes, even 10 minutes the teacher use my time for teaching, but this problem is general in every school and teachers so I’ve planned another strategy for that. I planned to cut my time in presentation step and wrap up to be shorter than i’ve planned before. E.g. I’ve planned 15 minutes for presentation step but I start the teaching practice a little bit late so I tried to do the presentation for 10 minutes. When it comes to activities, the school is opened to whatever styles or strategies of the teacher.

Problem Solving

My cooperating teacher, Miss Lek said The class that i teach mostly of the students are fast learners. They just feel shy and afraid to talk with new teacher in english language also they might be suprised with my accent. In terms of problem solving, the students were able to solve the problems even though I used the English language but they tried their best to replied in english. Miss Lek also help me to translate in Thailand Language. But I’ve tried my best to find the easier word to be understood by them

In managing the time i got a suggestion from my mentor after i had practice my teaching. Since the classroom quiet small for 41 students in it, she suggested me to manage the groups by counting  1-6 and based on their sitting place.  I shouldn’t divide based on students’ number because it will spent so much time for them to move. I got a new suggestion to improve my teaching skill. So proud and thankful to have a mentor and cooperating teacher like them.

Classroom Management

However the students are participative and behave well. When they want to answer my question I asked them to raise their hand, stand up and mention their name also the answer. I felt so happy when the students were engaged and answered my questions correctly.

At the end of my class, the students were stand up and saying “Thank You, Teacher” together infront of the teacher. At that time I felt so happy and proud I can teach them even it was the first time for me practice my teaching as an intern teacher.

Overall, my teaching practice was well done. My mentor and cooperative teacher observed me and gave me the evaluation result. I feel blessed, and here is my evaluation result.
